 Das Symposium "Atelier Europa: Creative Labour in
New Cultural Economies" am 12. und 13. März 2004
ist als anglo-deutscher Dialog angelegt, in dem das Verhältnis
zwischen den kultur-politischen Rahmenbedingungen der gegenwärtigen
sozialdemokratischen Regierungen und dem Feld selbstorganisierter
Kulturproduktion sowie die aktuellen Transformationen und
Konflikte in diesem Verhältnis ermittelt werden sollen.
Der Fokus der Konferenz wird auf Arbeits- und Lebensmuster
in der Kulturindustrie ausgerichtet sein, ethnische und
geschlechtsspezifische Chancen- und Rollenungleichheiten
im Kulturbereich untersuchen und die Bedeutung von Wertschöpfung
und Wirtschaftlichkeit für die Kulturproduktion thematisieren.
Die Hauptfrage der gesamten Diskussion wird sein: Wie ist
es möglich, die Flexibilität von Kulturschaffenden
zu fördern, ohne zum Fürsprecher eines neoliberalen
Systems zu werden? Was ist der soziale Nutzwert kreativer
Arbeit?
17 Gäste sind geladen, die im Kultursektor
in Deutschland und im anglo-amerikanischen Raum tätig
sind. Das Symposium wird von Angela McRobbie geleitet.
Geplant ist ein Buch bei "SAGE publishers".

 The
symposium “Atelier Europa: Creative Labour in New
Cultural Economies”, on March 12 and 13, 2004, is
conceived of as an Anglo-German dialogue which will investigate
the relation between the cultural-political conditions
of the current social-democratic governments and the field
of self-organised cultural production; one aspect of this
will be the current transformations and conflicts within
the relation. The focus of the conference will be directed
on the patterns of work and life in the cultural industry,
ethnic and gender-specific equal opportunities and roles
in the area of culture, and the significance of value creation
and economic efficiency for cultural production. The general
question for discussion will be “How can flexibility
among cultural producers be promoted without advocating
the neo-liberal system? What is the social use of creative
labour?”

of Germany, America and England have been invited. The
symposium will be organised
by Angela McRobbie. A book is planned with SAGE Publishers.
